Industrial Toxicology Information Services

The section has a wide array of collected and stored information on toxic chemicals that can be disseminated on request. It can also provide services on the safety evaluation of chemicals used in industry and in agriculture and suggest remedial/preventive measures to safeguard health and environment from pollutants as well as assess impact of hazardous industrial chemicals on the health of workers.
 

  • Micro and Nano -Particle Sizing. Measurement of particle concentration, distribution and aerodynamic size in nearly real time using the Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer Spectrometer (SMPS). The aerodynamic size of particles correlates directly to their degree of penetration into lungs.
  • Inflammatory Markers. A fast and high content analysis of proteins in cell biology, immunology and proteomics using the FACS Array bioanalyzer.
  • Cell cultures and Co-Cultures. The Tissue Culture Laboratory is fully equipped for growth and maintenance of different cell lines, we are currently culturing U937 cells.
  • Real-Time PCR. DNA amplification and quantification using the Q-PCR system. The system has a wide variety of applications (e.g. Viral quantitation, quantitation of Gene Expression, Array verification, DNA damage measurement, quality control and assay validation, pathogen detection, genotyping) and it is accurate, reliable and easy to use.
  • Nucleic Acid Extractions. Nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) are isolated and purified using the Nucleic Acid Prepstation and other bench techniques, from a wide range of biological samples.
  • Phenolic compounds and flavanoids preparation. Extraction, purification and quantification of phenolic compounds and flavanoids in plants.
  • Identification and collection of phenolic fractions using gas chromatography- mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography with diode array detector.
  • Assessment of total antioxidant capacity.
  • Assessment of cell metabolism. This includes quantification of ATP, mitochondrial reductase activity and LDH measurement.
  • Assessment of plasma membrane integrity such as lipid peroxidation.
  • Assessment of DNA damage. This includes detection of single strands breaks and oxidized bases using comet assay, detection of deoxyguanine residues and micronuclei formations) .
