Toxicogenomics Unit

Toxicogenomics UnitThis unit investigates the adverse effects of natural and synthetic chemicals on living organisms and how these effects are modulated by genetic, physiological, and environmental factors. Molecular and computational methods are used in this field, to study health, safety, and well-being by concentrating on the hazardous and beneficial qualities of toxic agents, ranging from industrially produced environmental contaminants to naturally occurring herbs. In the section research is conducted on a wide range of chemicals and conditions, including lung cancer, silicosis and tuberculosis. Specific research interests of the unit mainly but not exclusively, encompass these scientific study areas; growth regulation, molecular carcinogenesis and development, plus cellular stress and gene regulation/expression.
