This Unit is capable of screening compounds for such properties as cytotoxicity and potential genotoxicity using validated in vitro test systems.
The current genetic toxicity testing programme has evolved from a broader initiative to identify methods for assessing DNA damage that can be used in large epidemiological studies. The Assays include: Single cell gel electrophoresis or Comet assay, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanine and micronuclei assay. This unit also runs general oxidative stress assays such as lipid peroxidation, Nitric Oxide production, apoptosis, oxidative burst and inflammatory markers.
